I’ve been sick, bored and unhappy this whole week (about usual, I guess), but when moping got too tiresome, I decided to write a song. I tried to record a version of it on the piano, but I’ve not played one properly in about eleven years, and my throat was full of sandpaper. So I sent the lyrics and my attempt at a melody to my good friend Campbell Davis, who is currently touring the underground folk scene of Chile (if there is one). I really like what he’s made out of the bits and pieces I gave him. I think the ability to craft songs is a dying art, and Campbell still knows how to do it. Here’s his version that he rattled off unbelievably quickly. Mine sounded like Billy Joel at his mediocre-est, his sounds like something off the B-Side of Harvest Moon. I’m calling the song “Goodbye,” for lack of any better ideas at this point.
I’m going to try and put up my own rendition at some point this weekend, but for now, enjoy this.
